Her breakthrough role in the 1989 thriller Dead Calm brought several film roles to her in the early 1990s, including Days of Thunder, Far and Away, and Batman Forever, which won her worldwide recognition. She won her second Golden Globe and an Academy Award nomination for her role in the musical film, Moulin Rouge! in 2001. She won best actress at the Academy Awards the following year for her performance in The Hours. Other than her many film roles, Kidman is a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF and was made a Companion of the Order of Australia, the highest civilian honor, in 2006.
