The complete series of 18 prints, by Maud Oakes: "Where the Two Came to their Father: A Navajo War Ceremony." In 1941, the artist, Maude Oakes, witnessed a special ceremony conducted by Navajo singer, Jeff King. The ceremony was intended to prepare young Navajo soldiers for WWII. Maud Oakes replicated the sand paintings and this print is from an elephant folio, which contained 18 pochoir prints of the original sandpaintings, published in 1943.
