Mike Kuchar

Director, cinematographer, visual artist, writer, and underground film legend Mike Kuchar was born in New York City in 1942. He began by filming 8mm home movies with his twin brother George. They became central to the NY underground film scene, screening work alongside Andy Warhol, Kenneth Anger and Jack Smith in the 1960s. Kuchar's drawings pull inspiration from 19th century French paintings, natural history museums, American comics and gay underground culture. Kuchar currently teaches in the Film Department at the San Fransisco Art Institute.
